fire

my son

just six

keeps saying

he feels

like he’s

dreaming

why

I ask

careful to

keep

my voice

steady

feigning

a calm

I cannot

yet claim

myself

what I

want to

say is

the world

my dear

is on

fire

and we

sweet boy

must let

go of

everything

and burn

with it

if we are

to rise

together as

the phoenix

rises
